The Outer Worlds Pt1

As far as single-player games go, I had fallen out of love with the idea of them. Sure, not everyone’s tastes are the same and most people love the idea of playing through a game by one’s self, but that’s not always my idea of fun. I do prefer the social gaming aspect of playing with friends and just causing mischief, but this game may have reignited that love for the single-player RPG for me.

I used to play through a single-player like the world didn’t exist, then I started playing some online multiplayer games with friends and hadn’t really looked back. Even though there were massive title releases they just still didn’t really appeal to me, until this one.

Outer worlds seems to be an amazing RPG that combines the best of my top three games. Bioshock, Borderlands, and Fallout. Bioshock for its art, design, lighting, character movement and creepy story. Borderlands for its humour and brilliant art style that seems to replicate the key elements of a comic, another great thing I loved about borderlands is their original ideas of the open world and more specifically the colours and creatures they used. And lastly, fallout, I loved this game for the unique character customization that wasn’t ever too serious and had a comical twist to what one’s abilities were, and of course the storyline and depth to which the NPC’s are involved. The NPC’s never feel as if they are just passer-by’s of sorts or not critical to the story.

Outer worlds incorporates all these amazing elements from each game and blends them together seamlessly. The character design is in a true Fallout fashion and gives one a wide array of choices as to what your characters base strengths will be, based on intelligence, wit, wisdom, agility, etc.

Visually this has to be one of the most spectacular games to date. The game is superb and bright, the colours are blended well and the lighting is shaded just right. When it comes to moving, the rotation speed and aim are great and the shooting is comfortable and effective. I did prefer their QTT feature which allows the player to slow down time to make a few shots on an enemy. It seemed more user-friendly than the VATS system from Fallout.

The game offers you a selection of four difficulties starting at “story” which is aimed for the gamer that prefers the in-depth story lines of the game and doesn’t want to fuss too much over the combat and conflict elements, all the way to the “Supernova” mode which limits you in many ways, making this game a brilliant challenge to even the most seasoned gamer.

The NPC involvement is fluid and seamless considering they are so integral to the storyline. Naturally, there are hundreds of side quests for you to do so that one can unlock many things like additional info and lore on the main quest, extra XP, extra skill points as well as weapons and loot. The game also has a fantastic feature where a player gets a companion for some missions and this is useful, providing they know what they are doing.  Considering this is a game created by one of the original creators of Fallout, I’d say that this is the game that Fallout SHOULD have been by surpassing it in almost every way possible, visually and most noticeably in gameplay.

When it comes to the storyline there are at least forty hours of gameplay on the main quest alone, but if you're like me you get distracted by the side quests.

I would definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun game to play or even to watch. This would also be a fun game to play as a couple if you are the couple that does the whole couch couple gaming thing. The stories of each character are immersive and vital.
